Assisted Places Scheme

At KCS we operate an assisted place scheme for our holiday cookery sessions. These places are available to children whose parents are in reciept of benefits. In order to recieve an assisted place for your child, we must be provided with proof of reciept of benefits which we can copy and keep on file. This must be updated annually and you must inform us of any change in circumstances which may effect you eligibility for an assisted place. The fee structure for assisted places is as follows: £7.00 per class; £12.00 per workshop. Please note that the number of assisted places that KCS can offer is limited, depending on the length of the holiday period and on funding.

FAQ...

Q. What is the difference between a class and a workshop?

A class is a session that lasts 1 1/4 hours, and is suitable for the younger age groups such as 3-4 years. A workshop is a session which lasts 2 1/2 hours and is for age 5 upwards. Generally, in a workshop children will have more time and therefore will cook more than one recipe.

Q. Do I need to bring anything with me?

No! Everything you need will be provided including all ingredients, materials and equipment. We even supply you with containers to take the food home with you!

Q. What do parents/carers do while the kids are cooking?

You can leave your little chefs with us and just come back at pick-up time, or if you would rather stay on site, we have a waiting area in the reception area where you are welcome to stay. However, we are unble to allow parents/carers to wait in the kitchen during a cookery session.

Q. Can I still come if I have an allergy or special dietary requirement?

We can adapt our menus so that they are suitable to almost everyone. We can always offer a vegetarian alternative and Halal meat can be provided so long as we recieve advance notice. If a student has an allergy, we will either adapt the menu or supply relevant substitutes such as gluten-free flour. KCS is a nut free environment . It is very important that you inform us of any allergies or dietary requirements when you make a booking so that we can make the necessary arrangements. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer Kosher foods.

 Q. If I have been to KCS before, will I be cooking the same thing again?

The KCS Chefs try very hard to avoid this happening. If a student attends more tha  one session in any given school holiday then we will make sure this doesn't happen! However, if you have been lots of times, but during many different school holidays, there is a possibility that a dish may be repeated.

Q. What will I be cooking?

It is very difficult for us to specify. If you are considering making a booking, and want to know more about the recipes and menus we will be cooking, then please give us a call or drop us an email to discuss.

Got a question that hasn't been answered? Please feel free to give us a call and we will do our best to help answer your question!
